x = first number
y = second number x/y = 2/7
x - y = 60
add y to each side
x = y + 60
substitute (y + 60) for x in x/y = 2/7

do cross products
7y = 2(y+60)
7y = 2y + 120
add -2y to each side
5y = 120
y = 24
since x = y + 60
x = 24 + 60
x = 84
Since 24/84 = 2/7 we check out.
