The average of ten is 15.

AVERAGE =

    15 =

Multiply both sides by 10

    150 = SUM

If one number is removed, the average becomes 14. What number is removed?
Let the number removed be x

Then the sum of the remaining 9 numbers = 150-x

AVERAGE =

     14 =

Multiply both sides by 9

    126 = 150-x

      x = 24

The number removed was 24
