One number is 8 less than a second number. Three times the first is 15 more than 6 times the second. Find the numbers.
--------
Equations:
x = y-8
3x = 6y+15
--------
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
3(y-8) = 3(2y+5)
y-8 = 2y+5
y = -13
-------------------
Solve for "x":
x = y-8
x = -13-8
x = -21
