Question 799633: The sum of four times the first number and three times the second number is 15. The difference of three times the first number and twice the second number is 7. Find the numbers.
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the numbers be x & y
4 x + 3 y = 15 .............1

3 x -2 y = 7 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 2
Multiply (2) by 3
8 x 6 y = 30
9 x -6 y = 21
Add the two equations
17 x = 51
/ 17
x = 3
plug value of x in (1)
4 x + 3 y = 15
12 + 3 y = 15
3 y = 15 -12
3 y = 3
y = 1
x= 3
y= 1
