hi there, with questions like this, it is just trial and error till you get the correct number, the word 'quotient' just means division/divide
30/(3+0) = 10
31/(3+1) = 31/4
32/(3+2) = 32/5
33/(3+3) = 33/6
34/(3+4) = 34/7
35/(3+5) = 35/8
36/(3+6) = 4
37/(3+7) = 37/10
38/(3+8) = 38/11
39/(3+9) = 39/12
40/(4+0) = 10
therefore your number is 36, with questions like these always test the boundary numbers (in this case 30 and 40) as sometimes they can be the number also unless stated in the question they are not to be included..
