Question 78626: THE GREATER TWO INTEGERS IS 10 MORE THAN TWICE THE SMALLER. THE SUM OF THE TWO INTEGERS IS -8. FIND THE INTEGERS.

Let x=smaller integer
Then 2x+10=greater integer
Now we are told that:
x+2x+10=-8 subtract 10 from both sides
x+2x+10-10=-8-10 collect like terms
3x=-18 divide both sides by 3
x=-6--------------smaller integer
2x+10=2*(-6)+10=-12+10=-2--------------------larger integer
CK
-6+(-2)=-8
-8=-8
also
twice the smaller integer plus 10=2*(-6)+10=-12+10=-2
Hope this helps----ptaylor
