Question 785787: please help me solve this D:
The difference of two integers is 18, if their product is 8200, what is the bigger number?

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the numbers be x & y x>y
x-y=18
xy=8200

x=8200/y
8200/y -y=18
multiply equation by y
8200-y^2=18y
y^2+18y-8200=0
y^2+100y-82y-8200=0
y(y+100)-82y(y+100)=0
(y+100)(y-82)=0
y=-100 OR 82
y=82
x=100
The numbers are 100 & 82
