we have two numbers, but we will use x for both of them
first number doesent have anything being done to it, so it will just be x
x
added to another number
x +
second number is 5 times the other number plus 7, sooo...
x + 5x + 7 = 55
subtract 7 from both sides
x + 5x = 48
combine like terms
6x= 48
divide both sides by 6
x = 8
first number is 8, the second number is 5 x 8 + 7 = 47
so your numbers are 8 and 47
