Question 784526: I am trying to help my son with his math homework, they are word problems and I think I know how to come up with the first number but the second set is a little difficult.
The sum of two numbers is 92. The second number is 7 times more than four of the first number.
Here is what I came up with..
92=7x+4+x
92=8x+4
88=8x
11=x
There is a list of options on the side of his homework to chose from to help solve a riddle at the end of his homework. The only option with 11 in it, also has a second number of 81. I'm not sure if the first part is even correct, but if so how would the 81 come into play?

The first number you have is 11. that's right..
the sum of both numbers = 92
let y be the other number
y+11=92
-11
y+11-11=92-11
y=81
so second number = 81
