Simultaneous Equations:
A book = x
A pencil = y
3x + 2y = 18...1
2x + 3y = 12...2
Multiply (1) by 3
and (2) by 2
9x + 6y = 54...3
4x + 6y = 24...4
Subtract (4) from (3)
5x = 30
x = 6
Substitute x = 6 into (1)
3x + 2y = 18...1
18 + 2y = 18
2y = 18 -18
y = 0
Book costs Rs6 Pencil costs nothing.
