Question 757049: Find the perimeter of a triangle if one side is 5 centimeters, another side is three-sevenths the perimeter, and the third side is one-half the perimeter.

Let p = the perimeter of the triangle
Since the perimeter is the sum of the three side we get from the problem statement,
(1) p = 5 + (3/7)*p + (1/2)*p or
(2) p*(1 - (3/7) - (1/2)) = 5 or
(3) p*(14 - 7 -6) = 14*5 or
(4) p = 70
Let's check this using (1),
Is (70 = 5 + (3/7)*70 + (1/2)*70)?
Is (70 = 5 + 30 + 35)?
Is (70 = 70)? Yes
Answer: The perimeter of the triangle is 70 cm.
