The difference between 2 numbers is 46. 5 times the smaller is equal to 2 more than the larger. What are the numbers?
-----------
Equations:
x - y = 46
5y = x + 2
-----
Rearrange:
x = y + 46
x = 5y - 2
-----
Substitute:
y+46 = 5y-2
4y = 48
y = 12
------
Solve for "x":
x = y + 46
x = 12 + 46 = 58
-------
