Question 749166: The difference between two numbers is 42. If one-half of the larger number is three more than twice the smaller number, what are the two numbers?
Answer by FrankM(1040) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L = large, S= small
L-S=42 rearrange to L=S+42
.5L=2S+3 multiply both sides for easy reading to L=4S+6
Since L=S+42 and L=4S+6 then S+42=4S+6
S+36=4S
3S=36
S=12, L=54
