Two tanks hold a total of 37 gallons of a toxic solvent. One tank holds 4 gallons more than twice the amount in the other. How many gallons does each tank hold?

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
37=4+2x+x
37-4=3x
33=3x
3x=33
x=33/3
x=11 gallons for the smaller tank.
4+2*11=4+22=26 gallons forthe larger tank.
Proof:
37=11+26
37=37
