Let the smaller number = x
Then the larger number =(x+24)
:
If the larger is divided by the smaller, the quotient is 4 and the remainder is 3. Find the numbers.

A quotient of 4 with a remainder of 3 is 4 & 3/4 or a decimal of 4.75.

= 4.75

Mult equation by x:
4.75x = x + 24
:
4.75x - x = 24
:
3.75x = 24
x = 24/3.75
x = 6.4 is the smaller number; 30.4 is the larger
