Question 734826:

The sum of the square of a postive number and the square of 5 more than the number is 193. What is the number?

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X^2+(X+5)^2=193
X^2+X^2+10X+25=193
2X^2+10X+25-193=0
2X^2+10X-168=0
2(X^2+5X-84)=0
2(X+12)(X-7)=0
X-7=0
X=7 ANS.PROOF:
7^2+(7+5)^2=193
49+12^2=193
49*144=193
193=193
