Answer by bonster(299)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
They sold 5 times more batteries than pens.
Then pens=x and batteries=5x

When setting up the equation, make sure you read through it carefully.

the pens were $5 each and the batteries were $3 each.
so: $5(x) + $3(5x)=$960

5x+15x=960
20x=960

=
x=48
5x=240

*********They sold 48 boxes of pens and 240 boxes of batteries.*********

CHECK:
48x5=240
240x3=720
240+720=960
