The value of a coin is 6/5 the value of another coin. Together the two coins have a value of 44 dollars. What is the value of each coin?
Let x = value of one coin
then
(6/5)x = value of other coin
.
x + (6/5)x = 44
multiplying both sides by 5:
5x + 6x = 220
11x = 220
x = $20
.
Second coin:
(6/5)x = (6/5)20 = (6)4 = $24
