let the numbers be x & y (x>y)
x+y=17.........(1)
4x=6y-2
4x-6y = -2............(2)
Multiply equation (1) by 6 and add the equation to (2)
6x+6y=102
4x-6y=-2
10x= 100
/10
x=10
One nmber is 10 & other will be 7
