Question 683401: hi! i was wondering if you could help me with this question (at a basketball game, a team made 54 successful shorts. they were a combination of 1- and 2-point shots. the team scored 92 points in all. write and solve a system of equations to find the number of each type of shot.) i need to know how manly 2-point and 1-points and i cant seem to get it write. i do x+y=54, and x+2y=92 then i use the subtraction method and get y=42 by doing y-2y= -y and 54-92 and geting -42 so then i have -y=-42 so y=42 then i do 54-42 and get 12 but when i check my work it doesnt work cam you please help me? thank you?

x+y = 54 : rearrange as x=54-y
...
54-y + 2y = 92
54 + y = 92
y = 92 - 54
two point shots
x = 54 - 38 = one point shots
...
Check
38*2 = 76
16*1 = 16
76 + 16 = 92
