Hi,

if the sum of a number and seven is tripled 

the result is    five less than twice the number.

Translate into an equation: 

 3(x+7)= 2x-5

 3x+ 21 = 2x-5   || Adding -21 and -2x to both sides of the EQ

  x = -26
