Question 662034: The larger of two numbers is 6 less than 10 times the smaller. If their sum is 60 find the numbers
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = large number
y = small number
x = 10y - 6
x+y=60
Substitute x into equation
(10y-6) + y = 60
Combine like terms
11y - 6 = 60
11y = 66
y = 6
x = 60 - 6 = 54
The numbers are 6 and 54
Proof
10(6)-6 = 54
6+54 = 60
