Question 652961: The smaller of two consecutive even intergers is five more than one half of the greater. Find the intergers. I figured out in my head that the answers are
12 & 14 but i cannot figure out the proper way to set up the problem that makes sense.
My attempt at the setup of this problem does not work out:

I can show you how to find two consecutive even integers that fit your requirements. But I have no idea what an interger is.

Let represent the first of two consecutive even integers. Then must represent the other one.

You set up the equation properly.

Add -5 to both sides

Multiply both sides by 2

Add -x + 10 to both sides
