Question 640322: the difference of two numbers greater than 1 is 11, and their product is 42
Answer by sachi(548) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the nos be A & B
then A-B=11 -------1
& AB=42 -------2
then A+B=sqrt[(A-B)^2+4AB]=sqrt[11^2+4*42]=sqrt[121+168]
=sqrt289=17
so A+B=17 ---------3
now from eqns 1 & 3
we get A=[11+17]/2=14 & B=[17-11]/2=3 ans
