The ratio of two numbers is 8 to 5. The difference of the numbers is 24.
1st: a/b=8/5
2nd: a-b=24
-------------
Solve 2nd for a:
a=b+24
Substitute into 1st to solve for b:
(b+24)/b = 24
b+24=24b
23b=24
b=24/23
----------
Since a=b+24, a=(24/23)+24
Multiply thru by 23 to get:
23a=24+23*24
23a=24+552
23a=576
---------------
Solution:
a=576/23; b=24/23
