Let
x be the smaller and y be the larger number
The sum of two numbers is 90
x+y=90
x=90-y...........(1)
Three times the smaller is 10 more than the larger.
3x=y+10..........(2)
Substitute the value of x from (1) to (2)
3(90-y)=y+10..........(2)
270-3y=y+10
-3y-y=10-270
-4y=-260
-4y/-4=-260/-4
y=65
Put the value of y in (1)
x=90-y...........(1)
x=90-65
x=25
Smaller number x = 25
Larger number y = 65
