n + (n + 40) = 180
n + n + 40 = 180
2n + 40 = 180
Subtract 40 from each side of the equation.
2n + 40 - 40 = 180 -40
Combine like terms:
40 - 40 = 0
180 - 40 = 140
2n = 140
Divide each side by 2
2n/2 = 140/2
n = 70
n + 40 = 70 + 40 = 110
