Hi
Let x and y represent the samller and larger number respectively
Question states***
twice the smaller plus three times the larger is 34,
and five times the smaller minus twice the larger is 9.
Write as we Read:
2x+3y = 34
5x-2y = 9
Solving by elimination
4x + 6y = 68
15x - 6y = 27
19x = 95
x = 5 and y = 8 (2·5 + 3y = 34, 3y = 24 and y = 8)
CHECKING our Answer***using 2nd EQ
25-16= 9
