Sum of investments
x + 1 y= 16000 -------------1
Interest earned on both investments
9.00% x + 4.00% y= 900
Multiply by 100
9 x + 4 y= 90000.00 --------2
Multiply (1) by -9
we get
-9 x -9 y= -144000.00
Add this to (2)
0 x -5 y= -54000
divide by -5
y = 10800
Part I 4.00% $ 10800
Part II 9.00% $ 5200

CHECK
10800 --------- 4.00% ------- 432.00
5200 ------------- 9.00% ------- 468.00
Total -------------------- 900.00
