One-third of a number increased by 11 is 7 less than the number.
.
Let x = the number
then
(1/3)x + 11 = x - 7
x/3 + 11 = x - 7
x + 33 = 3x - 21
33 = 2x - 21
54 = 2x
27 = x
.
The number is 27
