One number is 18 more than another,and the sum of the smaller number and twice the larger number is 45. Find the two numbers and solve the equation.
:
Let the smaller number be: x
Then the larger number is:x+18
sum means +
twice means *2
is means =
:
The equation to solve is:
x+2(x+18)=45
x+2x+36=45
3x+36=45
3x+36-36=45-36
3x=9
3x/3=9/3
x=3
The smaller number is: 3
The larger number is: x+18=3+18=21
:
Check:
3+2*21=45
3+42=45
45=45 We're right.
Happy Calculating!!!
