"THE SUM OF TWO NUMBER IS 34."
Let the 2 numbers = X and Y
so X+Y = 34
"THEIR DIFFERENCE IS 10."
X-Y = 10
So now we have 2 unknowns(X and Y) and 2 equations
X+Y = 34
X-Y = 10
Adding the 2 equations you get
2X = 44
X = 22
=>Y = 12
