THE DIFFERENCE between 54 tens and the largest 2 digit number is
54 tens means 54 times 10 which is 540

The largest 2 digit number is 99

So the problem asks for the difference between 540 and 99.

To find the difference between a first number and a second number,
you subtract: first number - second number.

            540 - 99 = 441
