Question 544470: What is the greatest possible 3-digit number for which the sum of the digits of 10
Answer by lmeeks54(111) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! No magic here. No matter the number of digits, you want the first the digit to be as high as possible, and then let everything else fall in behind it. The limitation of all digits summing to 10 is a challenge but keeps the problem simple to imagine.
...
If you can use zero, then 910 is the largest number: 9 + 1 + 0 = 10 and 910 gets you into the 900's.
...
If you have to use all non-zero digits (I don't see that restriction, but I could see someone interpreting the problem that way), then the largest number is 811: 8 + 1 + 1 - 10 and you get to the 800's.
