Question 522124: The sum of the squares of two numbers is 88. The difference of the squares of the two numbers is 10. What are the two numbers?
Answer by umnikmo(75) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^2+y^2=88 (1)
x^2-y^2=10 (2)
from (2): x^2=10+y^2
substitute this into (1):
10+y^2+y^2=88
y^2=39
x^2=10+y^2=10+39=49
