Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Part of a $36,000 investment earns 6.5% annual interest and the rest earns 4%. If the annual interest from both is $1715, how much is invested at the 6.5% rate?
---------
Interest + Interest = Interest
0.065x + 0.04(36000-x) = 1715
----
Multiply thru by 1000 to get:
65x + 40*36000 - 40x = 1715000
----------------
25x = 275000
--
x = $11,000 (amt invested at 6.5%
36000-11000 = $25000 (amt invested at 4%
