Question 512852: the larger of 2 numbers is 6 more than 3 times the smaller,and their sum is 66?
Answer by Maths68(1474) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let
Smaller number = x
Larger number = y
Sum is 66
x+y=66
y=66-x.............(1)
the larger of 2 numbers is 6 more than 3 times the smaller
y=2+3x
Put the value of y from (1) to above equation
66-x=2+3x
66-2=3x+x
64=4x
64/4=4x/4
16=x
Put the value of x in (1)
y=66-x
y=66-16
y=50
Smaller number = x = 16
Larger number = y = 50
