Question 508549: find two numbers whose sum equals 10. and whose product equals 14
Answer by swincher4391(1107) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We are given
x+y = 10
xy = 14
If we solve for x in the first, then y = 10-x, and then we can substitute it into the 2nd equation
x(10-x) = 14
10x - x^2 = 14
0 = x^2 -10x + 14
Hmm. 1.68337, 8.31663
This is your answer, but I doubt this what they wanted you to come up with. Are you sure it's not whose sum is 9? If that were so, then by the same logic you would get 2,7 as your answer.
If not, then 1.68337, 8.31663 is your answer.
