Question 502675: the length of a rectangle is 2 more than 3 times the width, and the perimeter is 28 inches. what are the dimensions of the rectangle?
Answer by Katie4Spain(1) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
width= x
length= 3x+2
Perimeter = 28 inches
x+x+3x+2+3x+2 = 28
8x+4= 28
-4 -4
8x=24
-- --
8 8
x=3
******* NOW THAT YOU KNOW x......... Substitute**********
width = x = 3 inches
length = 3x+2= 3(3)+2 = 9+2= 11 inches
So the dimensions are 3 inches by 11 inches!
Hope that helped :)
