Question 501620: One number is 3 less than 4 times a second number. the sum of the two numbers is 27
Answer by geetha_rama(94) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let X and Y be the two numbers
X = 4Y - 3 -> equation 1
X+Y = 27 -> equation 2
Rearranging equation 2,
X- 4Y = -3
X + y = 27
Subtracting the above two equations,
-5Y = -30
Y = 30
=> Y = 6
X = 21
Numbers are 21,6
Check: X = 4Y - 3
21= 4*6 - 3
21=21
