x + (x+1) + (x+2) = 138
solve for x, the first number
Answer by rabrox(2) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, you would add all of the x's together. The coeffiecient of each x is 1.
So: 1x + 1x + 1x= 3x.
Then you would add the numbers.
1+2= 3
So now you have 3x+3=138. Next, you subrtract the 3 from each side of the equation. You should end up with 3x= 135. To solve for x, you divide each side of the equation by 3. So x=45
So the numbers are:
45,46, and 47
