Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find two numbers whose difference is 8 and 1/2 of whose sum is 16.
----
Equations:
x - y = 8
(1/2)(x+y) = 16
----
Rearrange:
x - y = 6
x + y = 32
---
Add and solve for "x":
2x = 38
x = 19
----
Solve for "y":
x - y = 6
19 - y = 6
y = 13
