Question 4885: The sum of two numbers is 23 and their difference is 5. Find the numbers.
Answer by jainenderkapoor(61) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
LET US SUPPOSE THAT ONE NUMBER IS x
THEN since the difference between the number is 5, we can take the OTHER NUMBER TO BE x + 5
NOW SINCE THE SUM OF THE NUMBERS IS 23 WE HAVE
x + x + 5 = 23
2x + 5 = 23
2x = 23 - 5
2x = 18
x = 18/2
x = 9
ONE NUMBER IS 9
OTHER NUMBER IS 9 + 5 = 14
