Question 469482: Problem: Twelve less than a number is the same as five times the number increased by four. Find the number.
The equation I came up with to solve this problem was 12 - x = 5(x +4). By writing my equation that way am I really saying "five times the SUM of a number and 4"? Instead, should the equation be 12 - x = 5x + 4, because the problem reads "fives times the number INCREASED by four"?

x-12=5x+4
-4x=16
x=-4
