Let the first number be x
Then the second number will be x+2
Sum of the two numbers=42
So,
x+x+2=42
2x+2=42
2x=42-2
2x=40
x=40/2
x=20
First number=20
Second number=x+1 =>20+2
=>22
Cheers!
