Question 453272: The differences between two numbers equals 11. Twice the smaller plus three times the larger number is 123. What are the numbers.
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 x + -1 y = 11 .............1
3 x + 2 y = 123 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 2
Multiply (2) by 1
2x-2y=22
3x+2y=123
Add the two equations
5x=145
/5
x=29
plug value of x in (1)
x-y=11
29-y=11
-y=11-29
-1y=-18
y=18
