Question 433198: Hello, I need help in how to translate the following problem into an algebraic equations. I have to identify the variables, constants, and coefficients in the equation and then make the equation with only one variable and simplify the equation on both sides until there are no parentheses and like terms have been combined. I am so confused. Thank you for your help.
1. In a certain triangle the measure of one angle is double the measure of a second angle but is 10 degrees less than the measure of the third angle. [The sum of the measures of three interior angles of a triangle is always 180 degrees.] What is the measure of each angle?
Answer by jorel1380(3719) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you use the second angle as x, then your first angle is 2x, and your third angle is 2x+10. Altogether, they add to 180.
--------------------------
x+2x+2x+10=180
5x=170
x=34
The first angle is 2x, or 68 degrees, the second is 34 degrees, and the third is 78 degrees.
