Hi
twice the larger number exceeds three times the smaller by 12
Let x and y represent the smaller and larger number respectivley
Question states***
(1/2)(x+y) = (3/2)(y-x) |x+y = 3y - 3x and 4x = 2y and y = 2x
2y = 3x + 12
4x = 3x + 12 |Substituting 2x for y
x = 12 and y = 24 (y = 2*12)

CHECKING our Answer***
1/2*36 = 3/2* 12 = 18
