A certain number is 2 more than 3 times another number. If their sum is 14, find the numbers.
Let one number be 'x', and other 'y'.
x = 3y + 2
also
x + y = 14
Solving the 2 equations gives
3y + 2 = 14 - y
4y = 12
y = 3
And
x= 14-3 = 11.
