The sum of two numbers is 15/4. If 1/3 of the larger number is 1/2 more than 2/3 of the smaller, find the numbers
------------------------
Equations:
x + y = 15/4
---
(1/3)x=(2/3)y+(1/2)
========================
Rearrange:
x+y = 15/4
2x =4y+3
-----
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
2(15/4 - y) = 4y+3
(15/2) - 2y = 4y+3
6y = 4.5
y = 3/4
==============
Solve for "x":
x+y = 15/4
x + (3/4) = 15/4
x = 3
